The freebsd manual has all the basic information. Follow the instructions carefully and you should be printing in no time.

hi, , i want information about install printer.

Comment #2 Balwinder S Dheeman (122.162.0.23) -

The FreeBSD *Handbook is clueless* on setting up USB printers, scanners, WLAN cards and, or many other things, even the 7.0-CURRENT/cvs one.

dmesg shows that the HP Deskjet 3745 is recognized, but the very first step fails:

# lptest >/dev/ulpt0

Some gentleman suggested me to use the port print/hplip for HP series of printers, but same did not work either.

Whereas all the gazillian Linux distro's support all such printers out from the box.

What next? Should I switch back to Linux?

Comment #3 Wilbur Corncob from Bogota, Colombia -

Good question! I gave up trying to get a printer to work years ago and haven't deleved back into it.

I keep putting off changing some work stations from Windows to FreeBSD for the printer issue (whether it exists or not) and apparently from your message it is still a problem.

Comment #4 Alexis Sarghel from Tucumán, Argentina -

Try CUPS, works fine. www.freebsddiary.org /cups.php

List of Drivers for CUPS, www.cups.org /ppd.php

Web GUI at http://localhost:631

Is another alternative.
